Looking to master Spider-Man in Marvel Rivals? You’re in for quite a journey. Spider-Man is one of those characters that seems straightforward at first – swing in, hit some combos, swing out. But spend a few matches with him, and you’ll quickly realize why he has that 5-star difficulty rating.
Let’s break down everything you need to know about how to play Spider-Man in Marvel Rivals and how to counter him if he is against you.
Note: This guide is based on the Marvel Rivals Version 20241210. We will update this article as soon as there is any stat or ability change.
Spider-Man is classified as a Duelist in Marvel Rivals, and he definitely lives up to his 5-star difficulty rating. He’s designed to be an agile assassin who excels at picking off isolated targets and creating chaos in enemy backlines. However, his low health pool means you’ll need to master his mobility to stay alive.

Playing Spider-Man effectively comes down to mastering three key aspects: mobility, target selection, and combo execution. Let’s break each of these down into practical approaches you can use in your matches.
Your bread-and-butter combo starts with Web-Cluster to apply the Spider-Tracer. Once marked, you have two options:
Standard Approach:
Alternative Setup:
Once you’re comfortable with basic combos, start incorporating wall-crawling into your gameplay. Clinging to walls near health packs lets you ambush low-health enemies trying to recover. You can also use walls to break the line of sight when retreating.
Your Spectacular Spin ultimate works best as a follow-up to teammate’s crowd control. Coordinate with heroes like Mantis or Doctor Strange who can lock enemies in place. The stun duration is long enough for your team to secure eliminations, but you need to communicate your ultimate timing.
During my matches, I’ve noticed certain heroes consistently give Spider-Man trouble. Here are the most effective counters I’ve encountered:

Playing Spider-Man well takes time and practice. You’ll mess up combos, mistime your escapes, and probably feed a few ultimates to the enemy team while learning. That’s perfectly normal. Start by practicing his basic mobility in the training range, then work your way up to more complex combos. Focus on staying alive rather than getting kills at first – the damage will come naturally as you get more comfortable with his movement.
Pay attention to what other Spider-Man players do in your matches too. Watch how they position themselves, when they choose to engage, and most importantly, when they decide to back off. Every match is a learning opportunity, whether you’re playing as Spidey or against him.
