So you want to mod Marvel Rivals after the Season 1 patch? I get it – the new update added some great content like Fantastic Four characters and a lot of skins, but it also blocked the usual modding methods with an asset checker.

After spending time working with the new system, I can tell you there’s still a way to mod the game. It takes a few more steps than before, but it’s totally doable if you follow along carefully.

Disclaimer: Let’s get the serious stuff out of the way first. Modding isn’t officially supported, and NetEase has made it clear that changing game files can get your account banned. I have to be straight with you – if you decide to mod, you’re taking that risk. Make sure you’re okay with that before going further.

Getting your mods working after the Season 1 update needs some setup first. You’ll need a few basic tools and files on your computer to make this work. Here’s what to gather before we start:

  • You’ll need to download FModel – it’s the main tool we’ll use to work with the game files.
  • You’ll also want 7-Zip installed (or any similar program that can extract files), and obviously, you need Marvel Rivals installed on your PC.

The process isn’t super complicated, but you should be comfortable with basic stuff like copying files and navigating folders. Don’t worry if that sounds technical – I’ll walk you through each step.

How to Mod Marvel Rivals?

1. Setting Up FModel

  1. Download FModel (look for the blue download button on their website)
  2. Once downloaded, find the F-model zip file in your downloads folder
  3. Extract it to a new folder using 7-Zip
  4. Open the new FModel folder and find FModel.exe
  5. When you run it, Windows might show a security prompt – just click “More info” and then “Run anyway”

Note for Epic Games Users: If you’re using Epic Games instead of Steam, you’ll find your game directory by:

  1. Going to your library
  2. Clicking the three dots next to Marvel Rivals
  3. Selecting “Manage”
  4. Clicking the folder icon

2. Finding Your Game Files

  1. Open Steam
  2. Find Marvel Rivals in your library
  3. Right-click the game
  4. Select “Manage” and then “Browse Local Files”
  5. Copy the folder path (use Ctrl+C)

3. FModel Configuration

  1. In FModel, click the “Directory” button (it has three dots)
  2. Paste your game’s folder path
  3. Look for “GAME_UE4_LATEST” and change it to “GAME_MarvelRivals”
  4. Find “Add Undetected Game” (it has two arrows)
  5. Add the same Marvel Rivals folder path you copied earlier
  6. Click OK
  7. If FModel asks to download something new, let it do that and restart

4. Unlocking Game Files

  1. Go to the top-left corner in FModel
  2. Click “Directory” then “AES”
  3. Copy and paste this key: 0x0C263D8C22DCB085894899C3A3796383E9BF9DE0CBFB08C9BF2DEF2E84F29D74
  4. Find and double-click “pakchunkCharacter-Windows.pak”
  5. Look for a new “Marvel” folder
  6. Right-click it and pick “Export Folder’s Packages Raw Data”
  7. Wait until it’s done
  8. Find your output folder through Settings > Output Directory

5. Setting Up Mod Folders

  1. Look for the “Marvel” folder in your output directory
  2. It should have two folders inside: “Characters” and “VFX”
  3. Move this “Marvel” folder to: /MarvelRivals/MarvelGame/Marvel/Content
  4. Find the “Paks” folder
  5. Either rename or delete “PakChunkCharacter-Windows.pak”

6. Preparing for Mod Installation

  1. Make a new folder called “Extracted Mods”
  2. Inside that, create another folder named “Output”
  3. Open FModel again
  4. Set your directory to the new “Extracted Mods” folders
  5. Add the Marvel Rivals directory again under “Add Undetected Game”
  6. Change the UE version to Marvel Rivals
  7. Restart FModel

7. Installing Your Mods

  1. Find and download your desired mods from sites like Nexus Mods
  2. Take the .pak file from your downloaded mod and move it to your “Extracted Mods” folder
  3. Open FModel (if you don’t see your mod file right away, try closing and reopening FModel)
  4. Go to Settings and double-check your output directory – make sure it points to the “Output” folder you created
  5. Click “Apply Changes” in the settings
  6. Double-click your mod file
  7. Right-click the “Marvel” folder and select “Export Folders Packages”
  8. Navigate to your mod folder > output > export > Marvel > content
  9. Copy the Marvel folder you find there
  10. Paste it into your game’s directory at: /MarvelRivals/MarvelGame/Marvel/Content
  11. When asked about replacing files, click “Replace”

Important Note: Some character mods might only show up in-game and not in the lobby. If you don’t see your modded character in the lobby, try checking it in Practice mode first.

8. Testing Your Mods

  1. Start Marvel Rivals
  2. Check if your mods are working
  3. If something’s not right, double-check all the previous steps

Troubleshooting Common Issues

If your mods aren’t working:

  • Make sure you copied all files to the right places
  • Check that you didn’t skip any steps
  • Verify the AES key was entered correctly
  • Try reinstalling FModel
  • Make sure your mod is compatible with the current game version

Remember, modding can make Marvel Rivals more fun, but it’s important to do it carefully. Follow these steps exactly, and you should be able to get your mods working even after the Season 1 update. If you run into problems, try the troubleshooting steps before starting over.
