The Rail Gun has made its way back into Fortnite Chapter 6 Season 1, and it’s quite an interesting weapon to use. It’s a high-tech rifle that stands out from other weapons because of its charging mechanic and ability to shred through builds.
While it got some damage adjustments compared to its original release in Chapter 2 Season 7, Rail Gun is still a solid choice if you know where to find it and how to use it properly.
Finding a Rail Gun isn’t particularly difficult, but you’ll need to know the best spots to look. The weapon comes in Epic (purple) and Legendary (gold) rarities, and you can find it in regular chests or elemental chests and as floor loot across the map.
Your best bet is to land at major POIs like Nightshift Forests, Flooded Frogs, or Magic Mosses since these locations have a higher concentration of chests and all these three locations have a secret vault with high-tier loots.
For the best chances of getting your hands on a Rail Gun, head to the underground loot caves in Magic Mosses or Flooded Frogs, or check out the Mythic Vault in Nightshift Forest.
The Rail Gun comes in two rarities, each with its own set of stats:
Epic (Purple) | Legendary (Gold) | |
Damage | 90 | 95 |
Headshot Damage | 180 | 190 |
Structure Damage | 525 | 550 |
Fire Rate | 1 | 1 |
Magazine Size | 1 | 1 |
Reload Time | 2.37s | 2.2s |
Using the Rail Gun takes some practice, but once you get the hang of it, it can be quite a lot of fun to have it in your build. With the upcoming Godzilla event starting January 17, this weapon will be particularly useful for targeting Godzilla’s weak spots and collecting those valuable Godzilla Fragments for health and dash charges.
To fire a Rail Gun, hold down the trigger to charge your shot – it takes about 3 seconds to fully charge. You can hold the charge for an additional 3 seconds before the gun automatically fires.
One of the Rail Gun’s features is its ability to shred through builds, making it particularly useful against players who like to box up. However, be aware that while charging, the gun emits a bright red beam that’s visible to everyone, giving away your position and alerting your target.
For best results, try to time your shots when enemies are distracted or moving predictably. Since you can’t cancel a charging shot, make sure you’re in a safe position before you start charging. The Rail Gun uses Heavy Bullets, so make sure to stock up on ammo when you find it.
Keep in mind that while the Rail Gun can deal impressive damage, especially to structures, its slow fire rate and visible charging beam mean you’ll need good timing and accuracy to make the most of it. It’s always a good idea to carry a more reliable weapon like a shotgun or SMG as your backup for close-range fights.
