After years of requests from the community, the original Fortnite Battle Royale experience is back as a permanent game mode. If you’ve missed dropping at Dusty Depot or fighting with the original weapon lineup, you’re in for a treat. And if you’re new to Fortnite, this is your chance to experience where it all began. Let me walk you through everything you need to know about Fortnite OG.
Fortnite OG is a dedicated game mode that recreates the very first season of Fortnite Battle Royale from 2017. But this isn’t just a temporary event – it’s here to stay as a permanent addition to Fortnite.
Starting December 6, 2024, you can jump into the original map with the classic weapons and gameplay that made Fortnite so famous.
The original Fortnite map is back, and it’s exactly how you might remember it. Each location, from Pleasant Park to Retail Row, stands just where it did in 2017.
You’ll find every chest spawn, tree, and even the old cars in their original spots. For veteran players, walking through Dusty Depot or landing at the old factory near Salty Springs might bring back some memories.
Fortnite OG keeps the best parts of old-school Fortnite while adding some helpful modern features you’re probably used to. When you’re moving around the map, you can still sprint, slide, and climb over walls – just like in current Fortnite. Need to heal? You can now move while using your shields or medkits, which makes surviving a bit easier.
Building works exactly like it does in the current game, so your muscle memory won’t have to adjust. The only difference is you can only hold 999 of each material type, which actually makes resource management more important. And for those of you who remember the classic double pump strategy – yes, you can still quickly switch between two pump shotguns for faster shots.
Fortnite OG launches with the exact same weapons available in 2017. You’ll find familiar favorites like the Pump Shotgun, Assault Rifle, and Bolt-Action Sniper Rifle. The game will gradually unvault more items as Season 1 progresses, just like the original release.
An interesting addition is that traps work in Zero Build mode. The classic Damage Trap, Ceiling Zapper, and Wall Dynamo are all available to catch opponents off guard.
This first season runs from December 6, 2024, through January 31, 2025. The shorter duration mirrors the original release schedule, allowing for more frequent content updates and changes throughout the season.
The OG Pass offers 45 tiers of unlockable content. This includes three main outfits – Renegade Rebel, Aerial Assault Bomber, and Skull Commander – each featuring an additional unlockable style. You have until January 31, 2025, to complete the pass, and progress carries over from any Fortnite game mode.
Drop in, gear up, and see why millions of players fell in love with this game in the first place. Remember, Fortnite OG isn’t going anywhere, so you’ve got all the time you need to master the classics.
