The masterminds behind the Game of the Year winner It Takes Two have struck gold again at The Game Awards 2024, revealing their next co-op adventure Split Fiction. After selling over 20 million copies with their previous hit, Hazelight Studios is ready to push cooperative gaming even further with a reality-bending journey through sci-fi and fantasy worlds.

Split Fiction Gameplay Reveal

If you loved It Takes Two’s creative co-op gameplay, Split Fiction seems ready to take that winning formula to new heights. The game alternates between Mio’s sci-fi world and Zoe’s fantasy realm, with each environment offering unique mechanics and abilities for players to master together. Picture escaping a facility under attack from spaceships in one moment, then working with mythical creatures to rescue the danger.

Some standout features include riding dragons, surfing on hoverboards in Tony Hawk-style races, and even transforming into magic pigs with fart-propulsion powers. Yes, you read that right – it seems Hazelight Studios hasn’t lost their sense of playful creativity that made It Takes Two such a joy to experience.

The game builds on what made It Takes Two special while pushing co-op gaming forward. Just like its predecessor, Split Fiction will include the Friend’s Pass feature, letting you invite a friend to play the full game with you even if they don’t own it. Better yet, this time there’s crossplay between PlayStation, Xbox, and PC platforms.

Split Fiction Release Date and Platforms

Split Fiction launches on March 6, 2025, for:

  • PlayStation 5
  • Xbox Series X|S
  • PC (via Steam, Epic Games Store, and EA App)

The game will be priced at $49.99, and with Friend’s Pass, only one player needs to purchase the game to play with a friend online. Given Hazelight’s track record of creating unforgettable cooperative experiences, Split Fiction is shaping up to be another must-play title for gaming duos when it releases next year.
