In Marvel Rivals’ Season 1 Midnight Features event, one of the missions in the second investigation called “The Doctor’s Out of His Mind!” requires you to trigger five portals in Doom Match mode. While this might sound simple, many players get confused about which portals actually count for the mission.

Don’t worry – I’ll explain exactly how to complete this task and tell you a bit about how Doom Match works.

The key to completing this mission is knowing which portals to use. You’ll notice two types of portals in the game mode: orange and purple ones. The orange portals you see inside buildings won’t count toward your mission progress. Instead, you need to find and use the purple portals that are located in the outdoor areas of the map.

To trigger the portals correctly, head outside of any buildings in the Sanctum Sanctorium map. Look for purple teleport points scattered around the exterior areas. When you find one, simply click the teleport option to use it. Each time you use one of these purple portals, it will count toward your mission progress.

You don’t need to use the same portal five times – any purple portal will work, and there are multiple ones available around the map. Completing this mission will reward you with a Bats or Bust Spray.

How Does Doom Match Work

Since you’ll be spending time in Doom Match to complete this portal mission, it’s worth understanding how this mode actually works. Doom Match is basically a free-for-all game type that takes place in the Empire of Eternal Night: Sanctum Sanctorium map.

Unlike team-based modes, here everyone is your enemy, and up to 12 players battle it out at once. The goal is simple – be among the first six players to get 16 kills, or if time runs out, finish in the top half of the scoreboard.

Keep in mind that some heroes work differently in Doom Match. For example, Doctor Strange can’t use his Pentagram of Farallah ability, and Invisible Woman’s Invisible Boundary power is turned off in this mode. Despite these restrictions, the mode is pretty straightforward and actually makes for a good place to complete event missions quickly since matches tend to be fast-paced and chaotic.

To wrap things up, completing the portal-triggering mission is simple once you know what to look for. Just remember – purple portals outside, ignore the orange ones inside, and you’ll have this mission done in no time.

While you’re at it, you might even enjoy the chaotic nature of Doom Match and stick around for a few extra rounds. The mission will be available until February 7, 2025, as part of the Midnight Features event, so you’ve got plenty of time to get it done.
