League of Legends Patch Schedule 2025: Complete Season Guide

League’s patch system is getting a complete makeover in 2025. You know how it’s always been one long season with patches dropping every couple of weeks? That’s all changing. Riot’s splitting the year into three seasons now, and they’ve come up with a whole new way of numbering patches too.

I know it sounds like a lot at first, but it actually makes more sense once you see how it works. Each season runs for exactly eight patches now!

Whether you’re aiming for Gold, pushing for Diamond, or just wanting to keep track of when balance changes are coming, this new LoL patch notes schedule is pretty straightforward once you get used to it.

The New LoL Season Format

2025 brings a major change to how League handles its seasons. Instead of the traditional yearly format, you’ll now see three seasons spread across the year. Each season runs for exactly 8 patches, making it super easy to track how much time you have left to hit your ranked goals.

The new patch naming system reflects these changes. Instead of simple numbers like patch 15.1, you’ll now see format like 25.S1.1. Here’s how to read it:

  • 25 stands for the year 2025
  • S1 means Season 1
  • The last number shows which patch it is within that season

Season 1 2025 (January – Mid-April):

Season 1 kicks off right after New Year’s with patch 25.S1.1 on January 8. This season runs through eight patches until mid-April, covering the winter months. Here’s when each patch drops:

  • January 8: Patch 25.S1.1 (Season start)
  • January 22: Patch 25.S1.2
  • February 4: Patch 25.S1.3
  • February 19: Patch 25.S1.4
  • March 4: Patch 25.S1.5
  • March 18: Patch 25.S1.6
  • April 1: Patch 25.S1.7
  • April 15: Patch 25.S1.8 (Season finale)

Season 2 (April – August)

The second season starts right after Season 1 ends, running from late April through mid-August. Here’s the schedule:

  • April 29: Patch 25.S2.1 (Season start)
  • May 13: Patch 25.S2.2
  • May 27: Patch 25.S2.3
  • June 10: Patch 25.S2.4
  • June 24: Patch 25.S2.5
  • July 15: Patch 25.S2.6
  • July 29: Patch 25.S2.7
  • August 12: Patch 25.S2.8 (Season finale)

Season 3 (August – December)

The final season of 2025 begins in late August and takes you through to the end of the year:

  • August 26: Patch 25.S3.1 (Season start)
  • September 9: Patch 25.S3.2
  • September 23: Patch 25.S3.3
  • October 7: Patch 25.S3.4
  • October 21: Patch 25.S3.5
  • November 4: Patch 25.S3.6
  • November 18: Patch 25.S3.7
  • December 9: Patch 25.S3.8 (Season finale)

How Long is a LoL Season?

The biggest change you’ll notice in 2025 is how much shorter seasons are now. Back in previous years, a League season would run for almost an entire year – usually starting in January and wrapping up around November.

You’d get about 10-11 months to work on your rank, with a couple of months of preseason afterward.

But now? Each season runs for just about three to four months. You’re getting exactly eight patches per season, which means around 15-16 weeks. (But don’t worry your rank will only reset once in 2025.)

Look, ranked League can be intense, and with these new seasonal changes, you’ve got more chances than ever to hit your goals. From my experience grinding through multiple seasons, the best approach is to treat each season as its own journey. You don’t need to rush everything in the first few weeks – you’ve got eight patches worth of time to work with.
