Chapter 6 has brought some big changes with a lot of new weapons in Fortnite, and one of the standout additions is the Typhoon Blade. If you’ve been playing recently, you’ve probably seen players zipping around the map with this katana, using it to quickly close distances and take down opponents.
After spending quite a bit of time with it since the season started, I can say it’s definitely worth learning how to use. But there’s also a learning curve – you’ll need to know when to use it and when to keep your distance, especially against players with powerful shotguns.
Let me break down everything you need to know about finding and how to use Typhoon Blade.
The Typhoon Blade comes in two versions – Epic (purple) and Mythic (gold). Both versions work the same way, but you’ll get them from different places. The blade takes up one inventory slot and shows up with a durability counter in the bottom right corner.
Here’s exactly what you get with each version:
Epic Version | Mythic Version | |
Basic Attack Damage | 30 per hit | 30 per hit |
Final Combo Hit | 50 | 50 |
Falling Strike | 70 | 70 |
Cyclone Slash | 90 | 90 |
Durability | 100 | 100 |
Structure Damage | 50 | 50 |
Cooldown (Cyclone Slash) | 7 seconds | 7 seconds |
Sprint Speed Boost | 1.3x normal | 1.4x normal |
The durability counter starts at 100% and goes down whenever you attack or use movement abilities. Once it hits 0%, the blade breaks and disappears from your inventory, so you’ll need to keep an eye on this during longer matches.
Getting your hands on a Typhoon Blade isn’t particularly difficult, but you’ll want to know the best places to look. Here are all the ways to obtain the Epic Typhoon Blade (purple version):
We are currently updating this section as we noticed that the stands change their locations every match. Hence we are making a list of the places the stands usually spawn on.
If you’re after the Mythic version, you’ll need to take on Shogun X at Shogun’s Arena. This is a challenging fight, but the reward is worth it – the Mythic Typhoon Blade features the same base stats but comes with slightly better durability and handling.
The Typhoon Blade isn’t just about dealing damage – it’s a complete movement tool that can change how you approach fights and move around the map.
First, let’s look at the basic movement benefits you get just by holding the blade:
Now for the combat moves and special abilities:
Move | How to Execute | Effect |
Basic Attack | Left Click/RT/R2 | 30 damage per hit, 5-hit combo |
Cyclone Slash | Right Click/LT/L2 | 90 damage, pushes enemies back |
Falling Strike | Attack while in air | 70 damage, fast descent |
Wind Leap | Jump while sprinting | High jump, negates fall damage |
Air Dash | Jump while in air | Forward dash, maintains height |
Keep in mind that the blade has a durability meter that decreases with use. This applies to both attacks and movement abilities, so use them wisely. The durability is generous enough that you won’t have to worry too much during normal gameplay, but it’s something to keep track of in longer fights.
From using it a lot this season, I can tell you it’s really fun but has some clear strengths and weaknesses. The mobility is fantastic, and it feels great to chain moves together. But you need to be careful around players with good shotguns – they can take you down really quickly if you just rush in swinging.
The Typhoon Blade is definitely worth picking up in Chapter 6. It might take a few matches to get used to all the moves, but once you do, you’ll have a great tool for both fighting and getting around the map. Just remember to keep an eye on that durability counter and maybe think twice before charging at someone holding a gold shotgun.
