Here’s the thing though – you can’t talk to him while he’s in combat, so take out any demons in the area first. Once things are quiet, just walk up and start the conversation.
How to Deal Damage to Demons in Kendo’s Calling Quest
The second quest needs you to deal 350 damage to demons. Don’t worry – you don’t have to kill them, just damage them. The demons spawn in a few regular spots:
- Shogun’s Solitude (usually has a boss demon)
- Lost Lake (regular demons)
- Magic Mosses (north side)
- Flooded Frogs
- The area south of Masked Meadows
- Both north and south of Shining Span
The easiest way to find demons is to check your map for samurai mask icons. These show up at the start of each match and mark where demons are spawning. There’s also a neat trick – demon portals appear in these spots, and if you see one that’s active (it’ll have purple smoke), that means demons are definitely there.

How to Collect Residual Essence around Warrior’s Watch, Demon’s Dojo, or Shogun’s Solitude
This part gets interesting. You’re looking for floating blue flames – that’s your Residual Essence. You need five pieces total, and they spawn in three places:
- Warrior’s Watch
- Demon’s Dojo
- Shogun’s Solitude
Each spot has three pieces of essence, so you’ll need to visit at least two locations. The essence just floats there waiting to be collected – walk into it to grab it. The spots are usually near buildings or structures, not out in the open.
How to Collect Fresh Essence from Demons?
This is probably the longest quest in the chain. You need to eliminate 10 demons to get their Fresh Essence. Each demon only drops one piece, no matter if it’s a regular demon or a boss. The best strategy is to target the regular demons rather than bosses – they’re easier to take down.
How to Give Fresh Essence to Hope in Kendo’s Calling Quest
The questline wraps up at Hopeful Heights, in the southeast part of the map. Hope is usually hanging out at the top of a building on the south side of this area. Just head up there, give her the essence you’ve collected, and you’re done.

A few things that’ll help you get through these quests without too much frustration:
- The demon damage quest (350 damage) and Fresh Essence quest (10 demon eliminations) can be done together
- For Spirit Charms, Magic Mosses is your best bet – three spots close together means less running around

- Keep track of Forecast Towers in the later game phases – they’re guaranteed demon spawns
