Getting new Fortnite skins usually means spending V-Bucks, but right now you can actually grab several outfits completely free. January 2025 has some good options – from simple account linking rewards to special event skins. The process isn’t complicated for any of them, you just need to know where to look and what steps to follow.
Let me break down exactly which free skins are available in Fortnite and walk you through how to get each one.
Here is a table for all free skins in Fortnite right now:
Name | Image | How to Claim | Expiry Date |
Explorer Emilie | Link LEGO and Epic accounts | No expiry announced
Mr. Dappermint | Link LEGO and Epic accounts | No expiry announced
Trailblazer Tai | Complete LEGO Fortnite Quests | No expiry announced
Chord Kahele | Earn 100K XP on mobile | February 21, 2025
Santa Dogg | Open Winterfest present (December 25) | January 7, 2025
Yulejacket | Open all other Winterfest presents | January 7, 2025 |
Getting Explorer Emilie is pretty straightforward. Head to the Epic Games website and log into your account. Look for the “Apps and Accounts” section, find the LEGO option, and connect your accounts. If you don’t have a LEGO account yet, you can create one for free.
Once connected, Explorer Emilie will show up in your locker automatically. The skin comes with both regular and LEGO styles, so you can use it in any game mode.
Getting Trailblazer Tai starts with a visit to the Item Shop. Look for the True Explorers Quest Pack – it’s completely free, but you’ll need to “purchase” it first. Once you have the pack, head into LEGO Fortnite and complete four simple quests: invite an NPC to live in your village, craft a Shortsword, build a Spinning Wheel, and use a Recurve Crossbow to deal damage.
Each quest is pretty straightforward if you’re familiar with LEGO Fortnite basics. After completing all four tasks, you’ll get the Trailblazer Tai outfit along with some bonus items.
Mr. Dappermint uses the same process as Explorer Emilie. If you’ve already linked your LEGO and Epic accounts, you’ll get this skin automatically next time you log in. If not, just follow the same account linking steps. The nice thing is you’ll get both Explorer Emilie and Mr. Dappermint at the same time, making it worth the few minutes it takes to set up.
Chord Kahele requires playing Fortnite on your phone or tablet. Download Fortnite Mobile from your device’s app store or the Epic Games Store, then start playing. You need to earn 100,000 XP while playing on mobile to unlock the skin.
Android users worldwide can participate, but iOS users can only get it in Europe due to store restrictions. You have until February 21, 2025, to complete this challenge.
The Santa Dogg outfit is part of Winterfest 2024. To get it, log into Fortnite on December 25 and visit the Winterfest Lodge (look for the snowflake icon in the top right of your screen).
Open the special Christmas Day present to unlock Santa Dogg. The skin gives Snoop a holiday makeover with a red and white Santa suit while keeping his signature style.
Yulejacket is another Winterfest 2024 reward. You’ll find it in the tall green present with a red ribbon in the Winterfest Lodge. The catch is you need to open all other presents on the left side of the lodge first.
Since you can only open one present per day, you’ll need to log in regularly to make progress. The skin features a winter-themed outfit with a white blazer and festive details.
Besides the currently available free skins, there are several other ways to get free outfits in Fortnite:
Getting free skins in Fortnite takes a bit of attention and timing, but it’s definitely worth checking what’s available each month. The skins I’ve covered here are all confirmed and working right now in January 2025. Just remember most free skins have expiry dates, so don’t wait too long to grab the ones you want.
Winterfest rewards in particular need to be claimed by January 7th. Keep an eye on the Compete tab and Fortnite news for future free skin opportunities – there’s usually at least one or two new ones each month. Even if you miss some of these, more free options will come around eventually.
